The Dundee Institute of Healthcare Simulation centre is located in Ninewells Hospital & Medical School, and this State-of-the-art surgical skills teaching facility was opened in 1992 by Professor Sir Alfred Cuschieri to provide a safe environment for teaching and training in laparoscopic surgery.
The Centre currently provides a large range of skills training courses in laparoscopic general surgery and also training courses in a variety of other surgical specialties (e.g. ENT, endoscopy, urology, orthopaedics) at basic, intermediate and advanced levels.
The mission of the Dundee Institute of Healthcare Simulation is to provide high quality skills training to meet the learning requirements of local, national and international healthcare professionals within the surgical specialties.
The University of Dundee is currently the leading centre in the UK using Thiel embalmed cadavers, thanks to the pioneering work of its Centre of Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID.)
