In 2011 the ICENI Centre opened its doors as a purpose built Research and Education Centre under a joint initiative between Colchester Hospital University Foundation Trust and Anglia Ruskin University.
In August 2018, following its success in building up a global reputation for delivering laparoscopic courses and other non-technical courses, such as patient safety and human factors, Colchester Hospital took full ownership of the Centre. The Centre plans to continue offering first class training and education to medical healthcare practitioners and further develop innovation and research projects.
Professor Roger Motson – a pioneer in Laparoscopic Surgery in the UK, retired from his position as Director of the ICENI Centre on March 31st, 2018. Professor Motson will continue to support the Centre through his new role as President.
Fellow Director, Mr Tan Arulampalam, also stepped down to pursue other projects and in recognition of the growing diversity of training requirements and to further utilize its first class facilities, the Centre warmly welcomes four clinical directors: Mr Adam Howard, Mr Matthew Tutton, Mr Barry Whitlow and Mr Greg Wynn.
